Over the past few days I have been doing the alterations to the dress which were discovered during the top fabric fitting. Now that the bodice and skirt are two separate garments, they have become a lot easier to work on. I still need to remake the front panel of the bodice, however that can be made and adjusted according to the fitting notes. Today also became the day where the first snip was taken to correct the hemline in accordance to the designers wishes.
Using safety pins, I measured 28cm from the ground using an 'L Square' all the way around the circumference of the skirt. Once this was filled in using extra safety pins, I cut the hemline using the pins as a guide. This ensured that the hem would be even throughout the skirt. I shall not bind this yet as Elizabeth has requested that lace adorn the bottom of the outfit. This shall be identical to the sleeves which shall be sewn into the bodice once the alterations are complete.A waistband and placket also need to be added to the skirt, along with popper fastenings and a hook and bar at the top of the skirt.
After my operation I am hoping to complete these and prepare the pattern for the March Hares shirt.
