A final decision
After a night of pondering, taking advice from my tutors and designer, I have come to a conclusion it would be best to work on textural elements and making two costumes which contrast. The March Hare costume involves a lot of crochet and knitting, from the tea cup on the hat to the knitted waistcoat/vest which goes over the shirt. The breeches shall be made from fake fur and lined with a hypoallergenic lining, as well as being elasticated. This is Underneath shall be a pair of pink tights which the breeches can go over. Black shoes (possible brogues) shall be adorned with buttons. The head piece shall be a boater hat with a green ribbon around the centre. Crochet/ knitted cakes shall be made out of double knit wool and buttons for decoration. The challenge as far as this outfit goes will be the ears on the hat as well as the pattern for the tea cup. Though there are patterns online, they are a generic size. I shall have to recreate these to show a range of tea cups which may be suitable for head piece
The White Queens dress shall be more of a construction piece. However there are sections of the dress: neck line, skirt edges and waist line where there are sections of handmade roses. These shall be made out of ribbon, organza and lace along with heat fix rhinestones. The sleeves will be made out of a sheer material with a cotton lace edging with heat rhinestone detailing. This was something we thought about last year but couldn't come to a conclusion on. However due to the intense heat and sun from last year we need our actors/actresses to stay as cool as possible. Finally there shall be white lace dolly shoes with rhinestone detailing. The knife pleating in the dress shall be tricky as each has to be identical in every section, I shall conduct some various sample work to show the designer, and allow her to come to a conclusion on what she likes. That being said I have also been told to use my initiative on certain areas. I would like to make the white queen dress slightly textural as well so everything ties in. The theme is buttons for this years event so trying to tie these into the costume somehow may add an extra 3D element.
