Start of the final project, Everything must begin with research

The past few days have been dedicated to researching Alice in Wonderland. I stared off reading both original books by Lewis Carrol (Alice in Wonderland & Alice through the looking glass) along with watching 9 different versions of alice in wonderland tv/film to gain an insight into the characters and how actors/actresses have portrayed them. From this I shall be able to write a concise character analysis of each character.

I have also located the original illustrations from the books by Lewis Carroll which were drawn by John Tenniel. These show how the characters were originally viewed, as well as the costumes each of them would have worn. Though the drawings are black and white, you can tell each character has varying silhouettes and styles.  I find that the Alice costume remains unchanged and accurate to the drawings throughout all of the films except for colour differentiation on dress where I found that red, yellow and blue  are all used. The most changed character in my opinion it the Red Queen.  Many follow the original illustrations however, due to theatrical appearance and to keep the film up to date, a few films have changed the silhouette and/or have changed the over all appearance of the Red Queen through animation and modernisation. The original illustrations show the queen in a flat like card state. Disney's version shows the queen with a similar silhouette minus the hood. Though the queens face is more animated, they have kept the original style of the dress and characteristics. However Tim Burtons version of Alice in Wonderland shows the Queen in a fantasy style dress, which combines  quite a few historical elements such as tudor (bodice) and  that uses modern printed fabrics. Below shows the change in character silhouette through the 2 majorly known films and the original illustration.
